Getting the kids to put down the digital on vacation comes with some incredible challenges. The Kennebec Valley has a lot of ways to take the guesswork out of getting their attention.
How about hitting the beach? Not on the coast, no matter where you are in the Kennebec Valley, you are not too far from a great beach or even a swimming hole. Southern Kennebec towns have town beaches, while up north, Lake George Regional Park in Canaan has a great beach and there is a sweet beach on Attean Lake up near Jackman. Then again we have water in every direction, so finding fun should be a breeze.
Another summertime treat here is the diverse collection of rescued and born in captivity animals at DEW Haven in Mount Vernon. Enjoy more than 40 kinds of wild and endangered animals from all over the animal kingdoms. Even some domesticated critters too. Gifford's, one of the region’s favorite ice cream scoops and begun right in Skowhegan, also tees up 18-holes of delightful family fun at it’s two regional locations. If you are down around Augusta, head to a new spot in Manchester for mini-golf, and let us know what you think.
A night out at the movies can be a big hit too. From a classic or independent film at the Railroad Cinema or at the opera house in Waterville to comfy reserved or recliner seating at the Regal in Augusta it's all about what you love to do. Explore the rest of our regional stories for ideas that will help you figure out how to get them going when they need a fun way to recharge.
